Death by a billion lighters

Disposable things are bad, disposable lighters are worse, an estimated 1.6 billion bic lighters thrown away every year and that's just one brand. When you include the fuel usage and energy put into the precious metals of these lighters the environmental impact is huge. It is sort of a death by a thousand cuts for us humans and our liveable environment.

People would answer one alternative is long term lighters such a zippos, but there's one glaring problem and that's peoples willingness to use fuel cannisters. It's a fact that buying a disposable lighter for £1 or $1 (depending on your country of choice) is easier than buying fuel cannisters for zippos, and a lot easier it works on purchase.

There is an alternative I've found and it's electric lighters, suddenly your fuel is basically free and you don't need to go to a shop to get it, you just need an electric socket. I believe that humans dont tend to do what's best, they tend to do what's easiest, and when you need a lighter what's is easier than using one that refills for free, anywhere.
